Set in Pasadena, California, the show is centered on five characters.
Room mates Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist and Sheldon Cooper, a theoritical physicist. They work at the California Institute of Technology together with two other geeky and weird friends Howard Wolowitz, an aerospace engineer and Rajesh Koothrappali, an astrophysicist.
And finally, the blonde hottie Penny. A neighbor of Leonard and Sheldon who is a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory and an aspiring actress from Omaha, Nebraska.
The intellect and geekiness of the four guys is contrasted for comic effect with Penny's social skills.
There are three other characters that has been promoted to main cast status for a few episodes.
Leslie Winkle, a Caltech colleague and sometimes a lover of Leonard and Howard.
Amy Farrah Fowler, a neurobiologist that has a very similar personality as Sheldon's.
Bernadette Rostenkowski, also a waitress at the cheesecake factory and a microbiology student.
Let's get to know a little something about the characters.
Main stars:
Jhonny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter
An experimental physicist with a 173 IQ. He received his Ph.D. at age 24. He is the straight man of the group and shares an apartment with friend and colleague Sheldon.
Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper
A child prodigy from East Texas. Sheldon has an eidetic memory and has an IQ of 183. He began college at the age of 11, started graduate school at 14 and earned his Ph.D. at age 16.
A theoretical physicist focusing on quantum mechanics and string theory.
He exhibits a strict adherence to routine, a lack of understanding of irony and sarcasm. Sheldon is also uninterested in many of the romantic hijinks of Leonard, Howard and Raj.
Kaley Cuoco as Penny
The blonde who lives across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon. She is waitressing at the Cheesecake Factory and is trying to pursue an acting career. She has been on casting calls and auditions but has not been very successfull thus far.
Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz
He is Jewish and lives with his mother. An aerospace engineer with no Ph.D. unlike Leonard, Sheldon and Raj but has a masters degree in engineering at MIT.
He provides outrageous pick up lines and consider himself the ladies man. He is often unsucessfull with women and always gets turned down.
Kunal Nayyar as Rajesh Koothrappali
He is from New Delhi, India and works as a particle astrophysicist. he communicates with his family via webcam and is very shy around women. He is physically unable to talk to them unless he's drunk or think he's drunk.
However unlike Howard, he has often had better luck with women.
Co-stars:
Sara Gilbert as Leslie Winkle
A physicist who works with Leonard. She is an enemy of Sheldon's due to conflicting scientific theories. Though they both consider each other to be intellectually inferior, Leslie is much wittier than Sheldon.
Leslie has had casual relationship with Leonard and Howard.
Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler
The woman that Howard and Raj met on an online dating site after secretly setting up an account using Sheldon's name and information. The two share similar traits and she becomes, as Sheldon say's, a friend but not his girlfriend.
Amy has a Ph.D. in neurobiology with research focusing on addiction in primates and invertebrates.
Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski
She works with Penny at the Cheesecake factory as a waitress and studies microbiology.
Bernadette was introduced to Howard by Penny on a double date. They did'nt get along at first, as they appear to have nothing in common. When they find out that they both have overbearing mothers, they feel connection.
I have 3 seasons and half of the 4th in my hard drive. I really love this show. Infact, i've watched it over and over and i can't seem to get tired of it.
My favorite character is Howard. I think i see myself in him as a horny guy but i'm just a little quiet and discreet. The addition of another hottie Bernadette is a plus.
Overall, the show is great and i think it will be on air for a long time.
